Pflaum Publishing Group Announces Revision of the 2026-2027 Pflaum Gospel Weeklies Program

WORCESTER, MA – Pflaum Publishing Group, a division of Bayard, announces the revision of the 2026-2027 Pflaum Gospel Weeklies and the introduction of a new Family Companion Book component. This new revision strengthens the program’s long-standing mission by fully embracing the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Evangelizing Catechesis Initiative, ensuring that catechesis forms missionary disciples who meet Christ personally and respond joyfully to His call.
A Program Renewed for Today’s Disciples
The 2026–2027 revision includes all doctrinal content for each week’s lessons within the lessons, a Family Companion Book that will strengthen the vital link between parish, school, and home, and provides a complete program that places encounter, accompaniment, and community at the heart of catechesis. Major updates include:
- Richer Scripture Engagement – Each weekly lesson has been refreshed to help children enter more deeply into the beauty and power of the Sunday Gospel. Added reflection questions, prayer prompts, and age-appropriate theological insights foster a living relationship with Christ.
- Separate Family Companion Book – Family resources have been created to be more accessible and practical, empowering parents and guardians as primary witnesses of the faith. Catechists will find enhanced Teaching Guides to bridge classroom learning with liturgical participation and community life.
- Updated Design and Layout – The Weeklies feature up-to-date lessons that are engaging and reflect Church events as well as current issues and happenings in the world. One common doctrinal theme per week is presented across all levels ensuring key teachings are revisited and deepened as children grow.
How the Revision Supports the USCCB’s Evangelizing Catechesis Initiative
The USCCB’s Evangelizing Catechesis Initiative calls for a catechesis that is kerygmatic, missionary, relational, and rooted in the liturgical life of the Church. The revised Pflaum Gospel Weeklies respond directly by:
- Prioritizing the Kerygma – Each weekly lesson begins with an invitation to meet Christ through Scripture—highlighting God’s saving love, Christ’s Paschal Mystery, and the call to conversion.
- Fostering Missionary Discipleship – New “Gospel Workshop” in every lesson guides children to act on what they have learned, cultivating habits of service, mercy, evangelization, and virtue.
- Centering Catechesis in the Liturgy – Because the program flows directly from the Sunday Gospel and liturgical season, it naturally leads learners to a deeper participation in the Mass and the sacramental life of the Church.
Supporting Families
The Family Companion Handbook supports at-home religious education by providing structured conversation prompts, age-appropriate prayers, and a mini family catechism that explores all four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These elements help families integrate learning across multiple age levels.
The revised Pflaum Gospel Weeklies for 2026–2027 will be available for preorder, with complete materials shipping in late July 2026. Parishes and schools may contact their Bayard Sales Representative or Customer Service at 800.543.4383 for more information.
